Background:
Kelly and her sister started playing hockey at the age of five
for two reasons - her uncle was the coach, and there were not
enough boys to make up a team in the small town of Sedley, Sask.
In addition to hockey, Kelly participated in basketball, volleyball,
badminton, handball and ringette.
Growing up, Kelly wanted to be a radio disc jockey, but rather
than pursuing broadcasting in school, she is studying management
at the University of Calgary. Kelly would like to work in sports
administration, so she can help amateur athletes like herself,
reach their dreams of sporting success. She describes herself
best as someone who likes to have fun, is committed to whatever
she is pursuing and has a good heart. |
Kelly has
been simply golden the last few years, helping Team Canada to
win the 2000 and 2001 World Championships, followed by gold
at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. |
|
Kelly is
a veteran of the Canadian national team, recently being named
to the world championship team. The team is currently undergoing
intensive training for the upcoming World Women's Hockey Championships
to be held in Halifax at the end of March.
“To have
the opportunity to make a difference in at least one child’s
life makes it worth participating in Sport For Life."
"By sharing
the experiences I have had, and choices I have made, I hope
the kids will realize what a difference being healthy can
be in their lives.”
