Message from the President

The 2006 Torino Games marks a year of unprecedented success for our Canadian Olympic and Paralympic teams. With 24 medals won at the Olympic Games – 17 of those from athletes who live and train in Calgary and the surrounding region – we have reason to celebrate, and applaud all those involved in helping Canadians realize their dreams.

Twelve years ago, the Canadian Sport Centre Calgary (CSCC) set out to create an environment of excellence, allowing Canadian Olympians and Paralympians, and national team athletes to achieve podium success on the international stage. Four years ago we made a strategic decision to “sharpen our focus” and provide improved services to enhance the performance of CSCC-supported athletes. This year in Torino, we had the privilege of watching those efforts come to fruition.

Success at the elite international level, as demonstrated by repeated performance results, lies in a disciplined approach to how we invest in, and support Canadian athletes and their coaches. The results of the past year, and our strategic plan for the future, offer much optimism for achieving top nation status at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games. The success realized in 2005-2006 could not have happened without dedicated and talented athletes, or the hard work and commitment demonstrated by the exceptionally skilled Performance, Life and Business Service staff. With that said, we would like to personally thank everyone associated with the CSCC for their efforts to make this year such a triumph.

Also, we express our sincere appreciation to the CSCC Board for their guidance and continued support. As we move forward, their counsel is another valued asset that will enable the CSCC to continually deliver solid performance results.

Sincerely,

Dale Henwood
President,
Canadian Sport Centre Calgary
