Athletes raise money with Vipers for Fuel for School

On August 21, Canadian Olympic athletes and the Calgary Vipers baseball club teamed up to raise money to help students receive a nutritious breakfast through the CBE’s Fuel for School breakfast program. Olympic Athletes of the past, present and future who are affiliated with the Canadian Sport Centre Calgary donated their time and efforts to help raise money for this wonderful program at the Vipers Fan Appreciation Day game.

Danielle Wotherspoon, Canadian Olympic speed skater said, “The Calgary Vipers approached us and offered to donate a portion of their proceeds to the athletes at the Canadian Sports Centre. As Olympic athletes who were supported by others along their journey for excellence, we felt fundraising for the Fuel for School Program was an excellent way to give back to the community. We saw a connection between the Fuel for School breakfast program and our own Fuel for Gold nutrition program that we use to help develop national level athletes. Our support of the Fuel for School program recognizes the importance of nutrition for teaching and learning as well as health and wellness.”

Thank you to the Canadian Sport Centre Calgary athletes and the Calgary Vipers who together donated over $5,600.00 to the Fuel for School breakfast program. The CBE greatly appreciates the community support for such an important and appreciated program.
